Washington Monument, Washington D.C. - June 2007
When in Washington be sure to take a tour of the Washington Monument. Tickets are free, but go early... they were gone by 10:30 the morning we were there. At 555 feet (and 1/8"!) it is the tallest observation point in D.C. While we were at the top, a National Park Service ranger announced that he would be conducting a tour "down the stairs" for anyone interested. It takes about 45 minutes but, is well worth it. During the construction of the monument states, cities and patriotic societies were solicited for memorial stones. A total of 193 stones adorn the interior of the monument.
